Armenia reveals day of presidential election in parliament

The National Assembly of Armenia will elect the country's new president at the regular session to be convened from March 1, Qazet.az informs, citing Armenian media.

According to Zhoghovurd daily’s information from sources close to the Civil Contract Faction, the authorities intends to hold the election in the period from March 3 to March 5; it is not ruled out—on March 3 exactly.

"(…) the authorities do not have enough votes to pass [their] presidential candidate Vahagn Khachaturyan in the first round, and [therefore] they have turned to the [parliamentary] opposition for help. However, their intention did not succeed, and, in fact, they already realized that the president would not be elected in the first round," the newspaper reports.

The matter is that at least three quarters of the total number of votes of the MPs—or 81 votes in favor—are required.
