The presidential election in Armenia will take place in March, the country's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the government session on Thursday, Qazet.az informs, citing Sputnik Armenia.
"I hope that before the election in March, you will fully implement the duties of the Minister of High-Tech Industry, and during this period, we will work effectively," Pashinyan said, addressing presidential candidate, Minister of High-Tech Industry Vahagn Khachatrian.
The prime minister said that Khachatrian was nominated by 65 parliament members, which inspires confidence that the candidate from the authorities will be elected president.
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian announced his resignation on January 23. As the main reason, he pointed out the lack of powers allowing him to influence the processes in foreign and domestic policy. From February 1, the duties of the country's president have been performed by Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan.
