Britain's South Caucasus policy during the post-conflict period discussed

Debate of the British parliament dedicated to the post-conflict issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been held in the House of Lords

On November 15, another short debate of the British parliament dedicated to the post-conflict issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been held in the House of Lords, Qazet.az reports.

During the debate, some distorted and biased statements have been made by Baroness Caroline Cox, a member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, known for her firm pro-Armenian stance.

But, his claims have been supported neither by deputy foreign minister Lord Zac Goldsmith representing the British government nor by the most members attending the debate of House of Lords.

Responses given by the government official have been in compliance with the balanced position that the British government has demonstrated during the post-conflict stage so far. Lord Zac Goldsmith has announced that his country supports only negotiated solutions to all existing disagreements.

Participating in the debate, Lord Flight, Lord Hussain, Lord Kilclooney, and other Parliament members raised issues such as the opening of the Zangazur transport corridor, which has great importance for Azerbaijan, as well as handing over all persons, characterized as prisoner-of-war to Armenia by Azerbaijan so far, the process of demarcation and delimitation Azerbaijani-Armenian state border and Britain’s possible participation in this issue, the significance of Armenia’s withdrawal all military forces from Azerbaijani territories, where peacekeepers have been deployed, in accordance with the trilateral statement, a continuation of Britain’s investments in Azerbaijan including liberated from occupation Karabakh territory during the post-conflict stage.
