Russian Foreign Ministry calls Biden's Summits for Democracy dangerous, hypocritical

The idea of a "Summit for Democracy" that the United States intends to hold in December is dangerous and hypocritical, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on December 1, Qazet.az informs via TASS.

According to her, it is necessary to pay attention to the idea of the event, not to its format or by which state it is held.

"And the idea itself is dangerous not only because of its hypocrisy. But because those countries, which not only do not respect them but generally do not value [them] in their everyday life cannot speak and teach democracy, freedom and human rights," Zakharova said.

Besides, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that this event contributes to the disunity of the world community. According to Zakharova, "another pro-Western coalition is being formed" under the influence of the summit.

“Once every 3-4 years, our Western partners appear with reminiscences, attempts appear anew or differently to look at their old, favorite concept - how to divide the world into ‘friends’ and ‘aliens,’” she added.

The Summit for Democracy will be held in video format on December 9-10 at the initiative of US President Joe Biden. The event will be attended by state leaders, human rights activists and business people. A total of 110 countries have been invited to the summit. Although the list includes the island of Taiwan, China, Russia, Turkey and Egypt are not invited.
