SOCAR: “Oil Refinery to suspend operations for planned repairs"

The Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will suspend operations for planned repairs, Ibrahim Ahmadov, deputy head of the Public Relations and Events Department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), told Qazet.az.

The plant is scheduled to be shut down in the first half of this year due to planned repairs, he said.

The SOCAR spokesman said that the regular work will be carried out simultaneously with the preparation for the commissioning of the units required for the production of diesel engines in accordance with the Euro-5 standard.

As the only oil refinery in the region, SOCAR's Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery not only supplies Azerbaijan with fuel products such as AI-92, diesel, and jet fuel but also supplies SOCAR's petrochemical plants in Azerbaijan with raw materials.

Some of the products manufactured at the plant are exported. Modernization and reconstruction works are important for the country's industry in order to increase the production capacity of the refinery, provide the country with high-quality fuel in accordance with Euro-5 standards, stable supply of raw materials, and increase the export potential of oil products of Azerkimya (Azerbaijani Chemistry) Production Association.

In line with the schedule, the production of diesel fuel meeting the requirements of Euro-5 at the refinery is scheduled for mid-2022. At the next stage, it is planned to gradually increase the quality of gasoline produced with the commissioning of new facilities and bring it to the Euro-5 standard in 2023. Modernization and reconstruction will also make an important contribution to improving the ecological environment of the capital.
