Turkey, Iran start talks to extend gas agreement

Negotiations between the Turkish company BOTAŞ and the National Gas Company of Iran will take place this week, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said, Qazet.az informs via foreign media.

The Iranian minister said that the extension of the gas agreement with Turkey is one of the issues on the agenda of the Iranian Oil Ministry and the Iranian National Gas Company.

Under the new agreement, gas exports to Turkey will last until 2026. Negotiations will start this week between BOTAŞ and the National Iranian Gas Company.

Iran is the second-largest supplier of natural gas to Turkey after Russia. As part of a 25-year agreement on natural gas supply for electricity generation, Tehran annually sells 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey.

Gas is supplied from Tehran to Ankara via a 2,577 kilometers-long pipeline.
