Why Albanese's promising Australia 'safe change'

In his pitch to voters, Labor's Anthony Albanese is promising “safe change”.

It’s not exactly inspiring, but the rhetoric is partly aimed at allaying people's concerns about changing a government in times of instability, Qazet.az reports.

And like many countries, Australia has had a difficult few years - there have been successive natural disasters, the pandemic, economic uncertainty… the list goes on.

“When Australians are nervous or scared tend to gravitate towards the conservatives, said ANU Professor John Wanna.

“Since the Second World War, the coalition has formed government about 70% of the time.”

However, he adds: “Having said that... there is no great love of Morrison… so if he does win, it will be because he's seen as the least worst alternative and possibly the safest.”
