As chairman of NAM, Azerbaijan provided financial and humanitarian assistance to over 30 countries - President Ilham Aliyev said

“At the global level, Azerbaijan has also taken very active steps,” President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in his speech at the opening of VIII Global Baku Forum - "The World after COVID-19", Qazet.az reports.

The head of the state noted that currently, steps are also taken as chair at the Turkish Council and the Non-Aligned Movement: “Last year, we held two summits at both institutions in April and May and discussed issues on coronavirus. At the Non-Aligned Movement Summit, we put forward an initiative. Hold a special session of the UN General Assembly, and our initiative was supported by the vast majority of the international community, and we held this session last year. At the same time, we put forward another initiative. This was a measure related to the UN Human Rights Council to ensure equal, universal access to vaccines and their equal distribution.

We are such a countries that clearly spoke about vaccination nationalism and stated that vaccines should be distributed equally. Because it was noted that some countries are about to introduce the third dose of vaccine, however, some countries were able to vaccinate their population at a very low level. We consider that it is very important to open equal opportunities. At the same time, believing our initiatives, we state that information base on medical services on COVID-19 should be established, for using it by the WHO. We also did it within the NAM, in such case forecasting issue becomes easier. As a chair of NAM, we delivered financial and humanitarian aids to more than 30 countries. We delivered a number of free vaccine doses to a number of countries. As well as we allocated financial aid to the WHO as a donor. This aid in the amount of USD 10 mln. was delivered to the organization. This was what we were doing global level. Of course.”
