Assistant to President unveils priorities on UN-Azerbaijan relations
Today, Azerbaijan's national priorities have been identified
"If in the first years of independence Azerbaijan acted as a consumer of aid and security from UN, now, already during the 30th anniversary of its independence in the UN-Azerbaijan partnership, Azerbaijan is a country that contributes to the UN system and supports UN goals," Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev told journalists, Qazet.az reports.
Hikmet Hajiyev noted that the election of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2012-2013 should be especially noted in the UN-Azerbaijan cooperation: “At that time, President Ilham Aliyev noted the priorities of Azerbaijan. It was stated that we will protect the norms and principles of international law. Along with the agenda of peace and security in UN-Azerbaijan relations, Azerbaijan is also closely involved in the agenda of sustainable development. Today, Azerbaijan's national priorities have been identified. These are the priorities for the development of Azerbaijan until 2030. There is a very harmonious alignment between our national priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Accordingly, the development of our country is carried out. Close cooperation is made with relevant UN institutions in the post-conflict period. It is very important that the UN institutions provide our country with assistance and information of various expert nature in the post-conflict reconstruction and construction work. That is why, we will consider the 30th anniversary of our cooperation at our today's conference to be held in Shusha, what we have achieved, in what directions we have difficulties. At the same time, we will discuss that in which form the Sustainable Development Goals will be implemented. The UN institutions must adapt their priorities in the projects that they implement in Azerbaijan, to the development priorities carried out by the Republic of Azerbaijan".
