At the initiative of Azerbaijan, sericulture was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO
Traditional silk production for sericulture and weaving is included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO.

Qazet.az reports with reference to the organization's Press Service that the nomination was accepted at the 17th session of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The application was submitted by Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
