AZAL doubles passenger traffic to Georgia

Over the first nine months of 2021, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) carried 43,725 passengers to Georgia, the local bureau of Qazet.az informs, quoting the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency.

Under the document, the number of passengers has increased by 24,629 people or 2.2 times compared to last year. In 2020, AZAL carried passengers to the neighboring country only in the first quarter due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In January-September, the Azerbaijani national carrier had a 3% share in the Georgian aviation market.

Turkish Airlines (189,457 people), SkyUp Airlines (160,694 people), and Belavia (143,624 people) were among the top three foreign airlines, carrying the most passengers to Georgia during the reporting period.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, flights between Azerbaijan and Georgia were suspended for a year from March 2020. Buta Airways, a low-budget subsidiary of AZAL, resumed flights on the Baku-Tbilisi-Baku route on March 19, 2021.
