The head of state delivered a speech at the summit.

The president spoke about the cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan in the energy sector, noting that these relations are also in the nature of a strategic partnership. Stressing that the 3,500-kilometer Southern Gas Corridor is one of the biggest infrastructure projects of the 21st century, President Ilham Aliyev brought to attention that after the commissioning of the last component of this project, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, Azerbaijani gas began to be supplied to Europe. He said that Azerbaijani gas is already being supplied to three countries of the European Union - Italy, Greece and Bulgaria. In the future, Azerbaijan intends to expand the geography of gas exports to other EU member states. Stressing that Azerbaijani gas is supplied to the European Union market as a reliable and new source, the head of state noted that recent events also indicate the importance of diversification in terms of energy security.

In conclusion, Ilham Aliyev once again thanked president of the European Council for his contribution to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
