Britain, Italy and Japan will jointly develop the latest fighter
Britain, Italy and Japan will join forces to jointly develop a new combat fighter aircraft.
According to Qazet.az reports. The project is called one of the largest military developments that will be worked on without the United States, Voice of America reports. It is planned that the joint development of the three countries will be able to take to the skies as early as 2035.
The basis for the new fighter will be the Tempest aircraft project developed in Britain with the involvement of the Japanese FX program and the Italian company Leonardo.
The accession of Japan to the British-Italian initiative in London was called an important achievement.
"The new generation of combat aircraft we are developing will protect us and our allies around the world," said British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The British government noted that the new British-Italian-Japanese aircraft should be "compatible with the fighters of other NATO partners."
Western countries are now voicing greater willingness to allocate funds for military purposes against the backdrop of Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as China's military buildup.
