Can the absenteeism system be abolished in universities?

According to the Bologna system, students are not required to stay at the university. They can come to lectures at any time and take their exams at the end of the semester. There is no absenteeism issue in the Bologna system, which Azerbaijan has joined since 10 years ago. However, the system of absenteeism still exists in Azerbaijan.

Qazet.az reports about this. If in the Bologna education system, students are not written absent because they do not attend classes, why does this apply in our higher education institutions?

Answering Trend's questions on the matter, Ilgar Orujov, a member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Science and Education, chairman of the Azerbaijan Young Scientist, Doctorate and Master's Society, Doctor of Philosophy Ilgar Orujov noted that in the Bologna system, students are not forced to attend classes and there is generally no issue of absenteeism.

"However, in Azerbaijan there is a slight difference in this direction. If a student does not come to class, he is written absent. In fact, this is not true for universities that join the Bologna system. In many cases, experts consider this as taking away the freedom and freedom of the student. If the student exceeds the absence limit, that exam is not allowed. First, we must form this mindset. If we have joined the bologna system, we must follow it for all students. If the absence limit is removed in our country, the student will not come to class, which in turn will create chaos. Before we give this freedom to the students, we must form this mindset in them. The student should understand that , he should not use this freedom for other purposes," he said.

Orujov also noted that although it is against the Bologna system, the application of the absenteeism system is a decision in favor of the students.

"If the requirements of this system are implemented directly, there will be cases of mass truancy and exam failure. Students should be given freedom, but they should not abuse this decision.

There are students who are flexible enough and can learn the lesson taught in the auditorium from external resources and pass the exam without coming to the university. Although we have joined the bologna system, we have not been able to create that system in full. In addition, we were not able to form a good educational system in the universities first," he added.
