CNN: "Girls detained during protests in Iran are subjected to sexual violence"
The American CNN channel prepared a special report on how the Iranian security forces used coercion to suppress the protests.
Qazet.az reports that after the arrest, the TV channel spoke with a Kurdish girl named Khana (according to CNN, the girl's name has been changed for security reasons), who was taken to the police station in the city of Urmia, Iran, and was a witness and victim of violence for only 1 day.
"There were girls who were sexually abused and then moved to other cities," he said, adding that many people are unaware of what is happening in Iran's prisons and detention centers because of police officers who threaten women.
Because media access inside Iran is severely restricted, CNN met with people in a region of Iraq near the border with Iran to interview witnesses who fled the country. As a result, he confirmed reports of violence against several protesters. Violent acts are reportedly being filmed and used as a tool of blackmail to silence protesters.
Before her arrest, Khana said that she was warned about the "very bad treatment" of women in Iranian prisons, but she did not shy away from it and joined the protests.
According to the girl, while she was in prison, her cellmates said that they were raped in the police station.
Khana said that he was lucky and that some of the detained girls were missing. For example, 20-year-old Armita Abbasin, one of the missing girls, was hospitalized by plainclothes police officers. His rectum was reportedly seriously injured and his hair was shaved.
