Deputy Minister: "The issue of self-sufficiency with wheat has become urgent in Azerbaijan"

What is happening in the world market has made food security in Azerbaijan more relevant, including the issue of self-sufficiency with wheat.

Qazet.az reports that this was stated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Elchin Zeynalov at the XII International Grain Trade Conference "Global Grain Outlook 2022" held in Baku.

According to him, recent climate changes, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and conflicts in the region have created serious threats to the global food markets and led to the breakdown of the supply chain. "All these factors pose threats to the food security of many countries. The way out of this situation requires the existence of new approaches and challenges. It is of great importance to hold this conference in such conditions. The presence of global players such as Russia, Turkey and Kazakhstan makes its importance even greater. "This platform is also an important platform for determining the fair price of grain, taking into account the interests of producers and consumers," he said.
