FAO to help restoration of 200 hectares forest field in liberated territories

The final seminar of the project “Assessment and monitoring of forest resources in order to strengthen knowledge frame over forest field in Azerbaijan” has been held, Qazet.az reports.

Head of the Partnership and Coordination Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Azerbaijan Melek Cakmak noted that the main purpose of the project is to bring a lasting management system in the forests to Azerbaijan, to increase ecological, economic benefits, quality of forests.

Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov noted that cooperation with FAO continue for more than 20 years.

V. Karimov noted that works in the direction of protection of biodiversity, use of rich water reserves, calculation of damage on mineral raw material reserves, and raising claims in this regard, restoration of forests in the liberated territories from occupation. Projects will be carried out in liberated territories from occupation with FAO. Restoration of a forest area of 200 ha is considered within the framework of the project.”

Assistant to Head of Cooperation and Coordination Office of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Azerbaijan Barish Mehdiyev said that the project was financed by Global Ecological Fund: “The project was implemented in 2018-2021. The project, which cost USD 1 484 247, consisted of three components. There was the formation of the management system of information on forest recourses, the establishment of the multifunctional forest management system, monitoring, assessment, and exchange of information.”
