First US soldiers arrive in Poland
Around 1,700 US soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, are expected to arrive in Poland
A plane carrying the first US soldiers landed in Jasionka near Rzeszow in southern Poland on Saturday.
Qazet.az informs, citing foreign media, that according to the Polish defence ministry, around 1,700 US soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, are expected to arrive in Poland in order to strengthen NATO's eastern flank.
On Friday, eight planes with equipment and logistics landed in Jasionka.
US authorities have previously announced the deployment of additional military units to Romania, Poland and Germany. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that they would not participate in potential hostilities in Ukraine, since their task is only to ensure the defense of allies in the North Atlantic alliance.
