235 people died of the disease over the past day
Germany registered 50,196 new COVID cases over the past day, its highest daily tally for the entire pandemic, Qazet.az informs, citing the Robert Koch Institute.
The previous record incidence was seen on November 10, when 39,676 cases were confirmed per day.
As many as 235 people died of the disease over the past day, bringing the country's total death toll to 97,198.
Last week, acting German Health Minister Jens Spahn said that Germany was facing the fourth wave of the pandemic, which, according to him, is a "pandemic of the unvaccinated."
Yesterday, acting German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the vaccination rate in the country is not high enough to prevent an increase in the incidence.
