Russian writer Ilya Shtemler, born in Baku, died in St. Petersburg at the age of 90.

Qazet.az reports with reference to TASS that the writer's family friend, poetess Tatyana Semenova, informed about this:

"He died in the hospital where he was treated for coronavirus. He stayed in intensive care for a week. His 90th birthday was only a month away."

It should be noted that Ilya Shtemler was born in Baku in 1933, in the family of Pyotr Shtemler, head of the literary department of the Baku Russian Drama Theater. He received a technical education. "Taxi Park", "Department Store", "Archive", "Train" are among his famous works.

Based on the author's work "Taxi Park", a movie called "Payment" was also made.

He was awarded the Gogol literary prize for his novel "Lonely in Paradise".
