The court in Kyiv has allowed to detain former President Petro Poroshenko for delivery to the court to select a measure of restraint for him, Qazet.az informs referring to Poroshenko’s lawyer Ihor Holovan.

He said that the defense of the former president of Ukraine sees no reason for the forced delivery of the client to court immediately upon his return to his homeland on January 17, stating that he is ready to voluntarily participate in the hearing.

“There are no grounds for forced delivery to court or his detention, since he [Poroshenko] was outside Ukraine and is ready to come voluntarily to court,” the lawyer assured. He added that the former president is ready to arrive at the court on the day of his return to his homeland on January 17.

The lawyer also reminded that earlier a decision was issued on the detention of Poroshenko with the aim of bringing him to court in the case of high treason, as well as a petition to apply a preventive measure to him. Ukrainian media reported that the office of the prosecutor general prepared a petition to the court, in which it asks to arrest the politician with the possibility of posting a bail of 1 billion hryvnia (about $37 million).
