Luka Shippati: "So far, 18.5 billion cubic meters of gas have been supplied to Europe through TAP"
Since its commercial launch on December 31, 2020, 18.5 billion cubic meters of gas have been transported through the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP), of which about 16 billion cubic meters are accounted for by Italy.
Qazet.az reports that TAP AG Consortium CEO Luca Shippati said this in an interview with the Italian newspaper "Il Sole 24 Ore".
"Only in 2022, it is planned to transport about 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Italy through TAP, which is 3 billion cubic meters more than the indicator in 2021," said L. Shippati.
According to him, the Melendunio reception terminal located in Apulia received 25-28 million cubic meters of gas daily in the last few months, and as a result, Azerbaijan became the second largest supplier of natural gas to Italy after Algeria.
"In recent months, we have tried to conclude long-term contracts guaranteeing the supply of 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year for 25 years, of which 8 billion cubic meters will be shared by Italy, 1 billion cubic meters by Greece and 1 billion cubic meters by Bulgaria. At the same time, we have also maximized short-term capacity, which has contributed to increased security of supply at this critical time for Europe. In this regard, we have more than fulfilled the obligations we took on.
In April, during the visit of the delegation of the Italian government to Baku, then Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio discussed the order for additional gas supply to Italy in the amount of at least 1.5 billion cubic meters. We gave a double guarantee and started the engines for the project to double the capacity of TAP - from 10 billion cubic meters to 20 billion cubic meters," said L. Shippati.
