Macron: France, Russia agreed to work together on security guarantees

French President Emmanuel Macron has called the talks held with Russian President Vladimir Putin meaningful and announced an agreement to work together on security guarantees.

Macron was speaking at a press conference following a meeting with the Russian president in Moscow, Qazet.az informs citing TASS.

“We have the will to work together to guarantee a new order of stability and security in Europe,” Macron said.

Macron believes that the revision of agreements on stability and security in Europe should not go to the detriment of European countries.

“I don’t think that the formation of new conditions should occur through a partial revision of agreements or our fundamental principles, or through infringement of the rights of European states,” Macron said. He did not specify which states he was talking about, but said that Russia wants to revise the agreements that have been in force for 30 years.

“The security of our continent requires that we do not make the mistakes of the past,” Macron said, noting that 'the strategic and historical dialogue that has been built over the past years' with Russia could help make progress. He also stated the need to 'find common positions in the coming weeks to defuse the situation.'
