The volume of mobile contactless payments in Azerbaijan is expected to increase from 10% to 30% by the end of 2023.

Avshar Gurdal, the General Director of the international payment system "Mastercard" for Azerbaijan and Turkey, said this in an interview with Qazet.az reports

A. Gurdal believes that the potential of Azerbaijan allows to increase this volume:

"Azerbaijan is a country with great potential. Today, the share of mobile contactless payments among transactions has reached 10%. We expect this indicator to increase rapidly and reach 30% by the end of 2023.

Of course, along with international payment systems such as "Apple Pay" and "Google Pay", other global mobile contactless payment players may also want to use this potential. For this, they can start operating in Azerbaijan in the coming period. Azerbaijan is currently adapting to this process very quickly. Of course, the increase of the indicator to 10% in 1 year shows the speed of this adaptation".

According to him, these two brands have the main share in the global mobile contactless payment market.

"I think that in the coming years, the requests of international players to enter the Azerbaijani market will increase, and consumers will have a wider choice," said the regional director of "Mastercard".
