Today, the next plenary meeting of the autumn session of the Milli Majlis will discuss a draft resolution on amnesty on the occasion of November 8 - Victory Day.
According to Qazet.az, the draft decision was submitted to the legislature with the signature of President Ilham Aliyev.
This act is expected to be the largest amnesty in terms of the number of people to whom the amnesty will be applied and the scope of the institutions covered by the criminal liability and punishment. Presumably, more than 16,000 convicts will fall under the amnesty.
Thus, the amnesty act will be applied to the categories indicated below:
- those who participated in the Patriotic War and battles for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, as well as close relatives of those who died and went missing during the hostilities;
- those awarded orders and medals for participation in the Patriotic War and other military operations for the territorial integrity of the country, as well as for other special merits;
- close relatives of those who became disabled or died as a result of Armenia's military provocations targeting the civilian population during the Patriotic War (until the day this decision comes into force), etc.
