Minister: "Cultural heritage monuments of Azerbaijan were deliberately destroyed by Armenian vandals"

"Cultural heritage monuments of Azerbaijan were deliberately destroyed by Armenian vandals during the occupation. At present, works are being continued in the direction of restoration of cultural monuments in the territories freed from occupation in accordance with the road map."

Qazet.az reports that the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Anar Karimov said this during his speech at the Azerbaijan National Urban Development Forum.

The minister emphasized the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of the countries: "Azerbaijan has adopted relevant documents related to the preservation of cultural heritage. Besides, Azerbaijan has joined a number of international conventions."

"As for the factors that lead to the destruction of cultural heritage, it is deliberate insult during conflicts. This also happened in Karabakh during the occupation. As a result of vandalism, all the cultural heritage and monuments of Azerbaijan were deliberately destroyed. Illegal archaeological excavations were also carried out," A. Karimov stressed.
