WARNING! Cough medicine kills 70 children: Banned

It was reported that the operation of the factory where 4 drugs of Indian origin, which may be related to the deaths of children in Africa, was produced.

Qazet.az reports with reference to "Times of India" newspaper that the Indian authorities took action after the World Health Organization (WHO) said that child deaths in Gambia may be related to cough and cold syrups produced in India.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that authorities found 12 violations during inspections at the Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited factory where four syrups were produced.

Vij announced that the said factory has been stopped.

Naresh Kumar Goyal, director of Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited, declined to comment on the matter.

69 children in Gambia allegedly died 3-5 days after using Indian paracetamol syrup.

After these deaths, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a warning against 4 syrups manufactured by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited in India.

Stating that the children died of kidney problems and that they found an "unacceptable" amount of toxins produced by Maiden Pharmaceuticals, the WHO warned that the drugs may have been distributed abroad, although they have been detected only in Gambia so far.

The Indian government has also ordered an investigation into the four cough syrups in question after the WHO linked them to child deaths in Gambia.
