The number of female officers in the Armenian army is small, and married women are not given concessions for military service, Qazet.az reports citing Sputnik Armenia.

Based on the investigation conducted by the Armenian ombudsman office, Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan said that the legislation does not take into account maternity leave in military service.

He also objected to the lack of any benefits for women who do not take maternity leave until the child reaches the age of 3 to continue military service.

Some factors such as not providing pregnant women with special uniforms as in the other countries, the lack of legal acts on military specialties in which women can serve, and the lack of conditions for families, which both members are servicemen, to serve in the same military are associated with gaps in the legislation.

The ombudsman's office will address proposals on these issues to parliament and the Defense Ministry.
