"Official Tehran is worried about Azerbaijan's economic and political progress."

Umud Shokri, an expert on foreign policy and energy from Washington, told Qazet.az reports about this.

According to him, the Islamic Republic of Iran carefully monitors the development of the Republic of Azerbaijan in various fields, as well as the role played by Azerbaijan in ensuring regional and European energy security.

"From the point of view of the Islamic Republic, the progress of the Republic of Azerbaijan affects Iranian Azerbaijanis as well. This means that Tehran does not like Azerbaijan's economic progress and the country's important role in regional energy security and ensuring Europe's energy security," he said.

The expert noted that after the liberation of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in the Second Karabakh War, the self-confidence of the Azerbaijanis living in Iran increased significantly: "During the war, the Iranian Azerbaijanis declared their support for the Azerbaijani army in the border areas. They even prevented the movement of trucks carrying weapons to Armenia through Iran." .

U.Shokri emphasized that in recent years Iranian Azerbaijanis have repeatedly protested against systematic discrimination and demanded the right to learn their mother tongue in schools: "If the Islamic Republic wants to make Azerbaijanis satisfied with their life in Iran, they must eliminate discrimination, and all provinces of the country should have a balanced should ensure its development and create conditions for the teaching of the Azerbaijani language in regional schools".
