The Ministry of Health informed on Thursday about 19,074 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, and the death of 274 COVID patients. This has been the highest number of infections since April 15.

The 19,074 new infections, the Health Ministry reported on Thursday, is the highest daily number since April 15. Last week on Thursday, ministry reported 15,515 new infections - 3,559 cases less than today - which means a 23% increase.

The average number of daily infections for the last 7 days has increased up to nearly 14,600 and is the highest since April 20.

The number of active cases, that is people who are currently infected, amounted to nearly 320,000, and is the highest since April 17.

The ministry also said on Thursday that 274 persons died due to COVID-19, of which 199 suffered from co-occurring diseases.

This has been highest number of daily COVID-related deaths since May 19.

For the first time since May 15, the number of hospitalised patients has exceeded 12,000, whereas the last time when the number of patients hooked to ventilators exceeded 1,000 was on May 24.

Since the start of the pandemic, Poland has reported 3,162,804 infections and 78,524 COVID-related deaths.
