President: "The fact that our athletes have won more than 800 medals in international competitions is a great achievement"

Our athletes have won more than 800 medals in international competitions, about 300 of them are gold medals.

Qazet.az reports that President Ilham Aliyev said this in his speech at the event dedicated to the sports results of 2022.

Calling last year's results a great achievement, the head of state said that competition in the world of sports is increasing, new sports countries are emerging, and it is not an easy task to show high results and confirm one's strength every year.

"Our athletes represented our country with dignity in the world and European championships. Among the international competitions, I would especially like to mention the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games. As you know, Azerbaijan was first in the team score at the Islamic Solidarity Games held in Baku 5 years ago. This was a historic victory, and this time in Konya, Turkey, among 56 countries, our athletes were awarded the 4th place with 99 medals. This once again confirms the success of Azerbaijan in the field of sports," said President Ilham Aliyev.
