Qazet.az reports that President Ilham Aliyev said this in a joint statement to the press after the meeting with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili.
"There are great opportunities to increase the economic potential of our region: energy resources, transport corridors. I must also inform you that the volume of cargo transportation between Georgia and Azerbaijan has increased by 75 percent this year. I want to inform you that we have increased the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway to 5 million tons. we intend to deliver. For this purpose, additional investment will be made by Azerbaijan in this project this year and next year. All investments are already ready and we have started this process. Because there is a great need for transport routes across the Caspian through Azerbaijan, Georgia and neighboring countries in the world. Both in relation to the geopolitical situation , as a whole, the new transport routes meet the interests of the countries located along the entire route," the head of state said.
