Qatar's foreign minister visits Moscow for talks with Lavrov on Ukraine — spokesperson

The Foreign Ministry of Qatar stressed that the peaceful settlement is the only way to solve the conflict in Ukraine

Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani arrives in Moscow on Sunday to discuss the situation in Ukraine at talks with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majid Al Ansari reported.

Qazet.az informs that this visit comes at "a very difficult period that the world is going through as a result of an escalation in Ukraine," Qatar News Agency quoted the spokesperson as saying. The top diplomats plan to discuss "the latest developments around the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, as well as the diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation," he added.

The Foreign Ministry of Qatar stressed that the peaceful settlement is the only way to solve the conflict in Ukraine. On Sunday, the foreign minister of Qatar had a phone call with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, stressing the importance of avoiding actions that would escalate tensions for all parties to the conflict.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories.
