Over 40,000 cases of coronavirus infection have been detected over the past day in Romania, which is the highest rate in the country during the entire pandemic, Qazet.az informs referring to European media.

Over the past day, 95 people have died from the consequences of the infection. In total, 60,000 people died from COVID-19 during the pandemic in Romania.

In recent days, Romania, as many other countries of the world, has been observing an increase in COVID-19 infections due to the spread of the Omicron strain in the world, which is considered more contagious and capable of spreading from person to person in a shorter time than previous strains.

In total, about 20 million people live in Romania. During the pandemic, more than 2.2 million cases of infection were registered.
