Tactical exercises with 1,000 servicemen have begun at the Lyaur and Sambuli mountainous training grounds of Russia's 201st military base in Tajikistan
A thousand servicemen have started training at the Russian military base in Tajikistan, the press service of Russia's Central Military District said, Qazet.az informs via RIA Novosti.
Tactical exercises with 1,000 servicemen have begun at the Lyaur and Sambuli mountainous training grounds of Russia's 201st military base in Tajikistan.
The last military exercises at this base were held in June 2021.
The 201st military base is Russia's largest base abroad. It is located in Tajikistan's Dushanbe and Bokhtar cities, and includes motorized infantry, tanks, artillery, reconnaissance, air defense and communications battalions. The agreement to keep the base in the country until 2042 was approved in October 2012 by the lower house of the Tajik parliament.
The Russian military base in Tajikistan was established in the mid-2000s on the basis of the 201st motorized infantry division of the former Soviet army. Russia does not pay Tajikistan for the military base, but instead provides the country with weapons and military equipment.
