On the evening of November 15, the 17th Baku Jazz Festival was opened at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy.

Qazet.az reports that at the opening, ADA Rector Professor Hafiz Pashayev, Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Anar Karimov, artistic director of the festival Rain Sultanov addressed the guests. The great role of jazz in the musical culture of Azerbaijan, the importance of exchanging jazz traditions with world performers and the importance of jazz as a tool of multiculturalism were noted.

The festival opened with a concert by the Grammy-winning Swiss artist Gregory Maret. Gregory is one of the rare musicians in the jazz world who uses the harmonica. In recent years, Gregory has become a unique and compelling voice across a wide spectrum of the modern jazz world.

The list of musicians with whom he has collaborated in his projects says: Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Cassandra Wilson, Marcus Miller. Talented young pianist Elbey Mammadzade took part in the concert.

The opening of the festival ended with a brilliant program by the Brazilian diva Eloiza Laurenson.

Bright, warm performance did not leave any guest of the festival indifferent. The night ended on a major note and started the jazz cadence of Baku autumn.
