The modernization of "Azerbaijan" TPP will be completed within two years
The modernization works of "Azerbaijan" Thermal Power Station of "Azerenergy" Open Joint Stock Company are planned to be carried out within the next two years.
Qazet.az reports that Deputy Minister of Energy Elnur Soltanov said this during his speech at the panel discussion at the "Green Transformation in Azerbaijan" conference held within the framework of the "SDG Dialogues" initiative of the UN.
He said that the modernization works will affect the sufficient reduction of greenhouse gases:
"Serious steps are being taken in the field of energy production. The replacement of inefficient stations with more efficient ones is an example of this. Mingachevir is home to the largest hydroelectric power station in Azerbaijan, and 95% of the energy produced there is obtained with natural gas. Mingachevir HPP is a 2,400 megawatt power plant. It was one of the most inefficient stations left from the time of the USSR. The work carried out in the direction of its modernization is aimed at saving several hundreds of millions of natural gas."
