UN: "Promoting gender equality will increase the world economy by 12 trillion dollars"
"If women, who make up half of the world's working population, do not realize their full potential, gender inequality will become a major economic problem. Promoting gender equality in the workplace could boost the world economy by $12 trillion by 2025."
Qazet.az reports with reference to TASS that this was said by the executive director of "UN Women" organization Sima Sami Bachus at the opening of the meeting of the World Assembly for Women (WAW!) held in Tokyo on Saturday.
According to him, although there has been a tendency to improve the position of women in society in recent years, the pandemic has had a negative impact on this process. Sima Sami Bacchus said that after the kindergartens were closed, women had to take care of their children, and as a result, there was a reduction in working hours among them.
"At the current rate of progress, it will take us 300 years to achieve gender equality, abolish discriminatory laws and eliminate gaps in legal protection," Bacchus stressed.
