"We will continue the defense of Ahiska Turks."
Qazet.az reports that Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlud Çavuşoğlu wrote this on Twitter.
According to him, the people of Ahiska were exiled from their homeland 78 years ago just because they were Turks: "We do not forget what happened during the exile, we remember those who lost their lives with compassion."
It should be noted that 77 years have passed since the deportation of Ahiska Turks to Central Asia from their ancestral homeland, Southwest Georgia. Despite all the difficulties, this small nation has preserved its Turkishness. It is for this reason that the people of Ahiska, who consider Georgia their historical homeland, are primarily interested in Turkey. The presence of the same noble people living in Turkey and the migration policy of this country regarding the Ahiskas are two other important factors contributing to their influx.
About 600,000 Ahiska Turks currently live in 9 countries of the world. In some of them, security concerns and the consequences of the military conflict are still forcing Ahiska people to reconsider their future.
